The city of Greensboro and the surrounding suburb regions have a plethora of fun things to do for recreation and many great complexes to enjoy your favorite sports. For starters, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department operates 10 recreation centers that are conveniently located
in different places of the city. All of these centers provide phenomenal programs for people of all ages including team sports, fitness instruction classes and leisure activity classes for the entire family. These centers also host summer day camps and after-school programs that offer fun and enriching programs for boys and girls ages 5-12. Also, indoor sport complexes like the Simkins Indoor Sports Pavilion at Barber Park and Greensboro Sportplex provide an arena for everyone to enjoy recreational activities indoors.
In addition to the many fitness centers and complexes, there are several great walking trails located throughout the city, providing residents and walkers with excellent choices to get out and enjoy the day. There are approximately six walking trails around the city, even more greenways and some excellent walk through trails that meander through the city’s beautiful botanical gardens. In addition to these special walking trails, the city also has Watershed Parks that are located at Lake Higgins, Lake Townsend and Lake Brandt that offer fun outdoor activities like fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, sailing and of course, hiking and picnicking.
Residents also enjoy going to the Greensboro City Pools. There are several city pools located throughout the region
that offer programs and classes to residents of all ages. The indoor pools are open year-round and the outdoor pools are open during the summer months.
Lastly, the city of Greensboro is a phenomenal place to retire and there is an abundance of programs and centers for seniors in the city. The Smith Senior Center hosts several events year-round for seniors and is also open for classes and other fun recreational activities for seniors. Located on the premises are a fitness center, an indoor pool, a social lounge and a large gymnasium.
